Robert Bryden joined veteran Stephen Osborne at SOSAPHS, some years ago. Through their joint ventures and Robert's considerable technical skills they developed stamps internet businesses with other employees and Addisson Bryden and Co was born. Now Stephen employs a group of half a dozen people, from his beautiful rural base in Nutbourne, West Sussex.
Stephen makes trips all over the world, especially Scandinavia and Germany in the hunt for stamps, postal history, coins, banknotes and paper collectibles. He and Robert give choice to potential sellers by either outright purchase, sales through private treaty, sales through their internet auctions or through public auction with their associate company AB Philea of Stockholm.
Stephen knows every collection is different, yet each one speaks their own history and says something about their own creator - patterns such as what part of the world they lived in at certain times, where they bought their stamps from, ie, new issues, auction or inherited or a combination of all 3, what kind of dedication they poured into their collection, even sometimes Stephen can tell the likely career of the collector. He understands the thrill of the hunt, the joy of discovery and the fulfilment the whole process of making a collection gives.
In fact, he admits he loves his job now even more than he did when he was just starting out. "My philosophy is Carpe Diem,'seize the day' and if I do not get pleasure from collections then I am not interested, " explains Stephen. "People' s passions are reflected in what they collect and so much about people' s lives, personalities and passions can be revealed in them. "When you are with a good collection you are totally absorbed by it. That is passion and that is what it is all about."
With 45 years experience, Stephen has brings a wealth of knowledge to all his ventures. He has been a member of the Philatelic Traders society for the last 20 years and adheres to their code of ethics.
